budget references

GFS August 6 email -

I did some quick math before calling you.  Our projected budget for videography, equipment, transportation and post-production combined is C$17,632 (converted from US$ on the web pages) of which we have raised 40% or C$7,052.80 so far.  That is the base from which we are starting.  I am hopeful that we reach the projected figure over the next 6 weeks, but at least we have what we have so far.

The other items, clumped together, are dancers, actors and costumes for C$7,686 (C$3,074.40 raised) and stock photos for C$882 (C$791 raised).

So assuming we reach the intended goal, my starting fee for the production is 10% of the music video's budget. This covers pre-production services like location scouting, shot lists,  as well as the shoot. Day rates for the key crew, are $100 but due to the scale of this shoot, a small crew of 2-3 members would suffice. As for equipment, my team and I have a modest equipment package that could also cover the gear, should that interest you.

As for post-production, that is an entirely different service separate from directing so it's not included, but I would still be interested in undertaking that role.

The Budget – September 23, 2021 - Revised

In all, we raised US$17,568.24 (CAD$22,406.47) for the music and the video.

Of that, $8,250 has gone toward the music which is almost done, $250 toward the logo, $250 toward a fund-raising video, $422.72 toward props, and about $125 toward bank charges, totalling US$9,547.72 (CAD$12,177.13).

That leaves US$8,020.52 (CAD$10,229.34).  We raised money in US funds, but for simplicity's sake I am going to use CAD$ in the rest of this email.  Basically, I am all in with making this Climate Crisis Anthem video, so I am pitching in some more money, which brings our working budget to $13,925.

For ease of reference, I have cut and pasted some of our correspondence about the budget on a special page on my website: gurufathasingh.com/budref

All figures are GST included:

Ryan (director) - $1,695 (more than 10% of our video budget, but less than our projected budget)
Day crew (6 man days for 2 days) - $678

Main dancer Clare Butler - $904
Actors (businessmen, parents, children) - $1,490
Mothers with children (payment for videos they make and send in) - $1,490
Children dancers for The Time - $990

Post-production, colour grading (you) - $2,260

Video equipment (for 2 days) - $844.10

Transportation (where necessary, for props or actors) - $135.60

Costumes, make up, props (not including $539 already spent on props) - $1,078.30

Stock footage - $926.60

Online promotion (not including fundraising video) with Google, possibly Facebook - $1275 (no GST as they are in US)

Bank charges - $125

TOTAL:  $13,923.93

I suggest that any money saved, such as by doing the shoots in one day rather than two, be allocated to any areas of budget shortfall.  If there are no shortfall areas, money saved may be divided evenly between the director and the online promotion fund.

Once we are in agreement, I will send you by bank transfer (Interac) half the money allocated for you, the day crew and the equipment, amounting to $1,452.05.  After the shoot, I will pay you the other half.

Budget agreed on and $847.50 paid to Ryan by Interac September 23, 2021
